The Persian Gulf Complex in Iran shows the variety of uses
that can be given to a shopping center. Once completed, its 420,000 square
meters will house an indoor amusement park, a mosque and a heliport.
The One Utama in Selangor (Malaysia) offers visitors an
indoor rainforest with ponds and Japanese carp fish, ideal to escape the hustle
and bustle of the mall, as well as the largest garden in Southeast Asia on the
upper part.
The rise of Asian malls was led by emerging economies such
as China, Turkey, Malaysia and the Philippines in the early 2000s. Many of
these multipurpose centers are still under construction in order to satisfy the
commercial boom led by the Asian powers.
Canada is home to the only one of the world's ten largest
malls not found on the Asian continent: the West Edmonton Mall, located in the
city of Edmonton.
